I have this. It freezes the mixture into a nice soft serve in about 30 minutes. The only issue I have with it: the mixture sticks to badly to the sides of the freezing container, you either have to scrape it out, or wait for it to melt (which takes a while, the whole container has to totally warm back up). You loose a quite a bit of the mixture that way, and it locks up the machine and won't stir it anymore because of this, so I end up with about 1/2 of what I put in there.

This product is good. It works just like it says. It makes soft serve ice cream within a half hour of putting ingredients in if you have had the cold bowl in the freezer for 24 hours, and have your ice cream ingredients chilled to fridge level. It's nice to be able to make our own ice cream without all the additives in store-bought ice cream.

I absolutely adore this ice cream maker! I just keep the bowl in the freezer so I can pull it out whenever I want to make ice cream! Everyone in my family adores it too! Absolutely perfect!

Truth is, the girls 10-14 seemed to like it. After the first round of trying to find water softner salt at local hardware store and explaining how it all worked so they keep the salt OUT of the ingredients they were more than able to do it themselves. The ball is heavy and a bit awkward; its not really the kind of thing you want tossed IN the house. They sat and rolled it....which lead to some interesting conversations and goofy play trying to fill up the 20 mins of roll time. All in all---they were happy with the results and will use it for sleepovers and while babysitting (their review). It seems kicking it while walking around the block would be the preferred method of mixing---but I doubt the plastic covering will withstand much of that! For that reason---4 stars.

Amazon.com Review
Creating up to 1-1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with this electric appliance, and salt and ice are not needed. After the machine's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about eight hours the liquid between its walls is thoroughly frozen. The chamber then goes atop the power base, the unit's paddle goes into the chamber, the transparent top is locked in place, and the machine is turned on. Ingredients go into the chamber through an opening in the top as the paddle turns. The chamber chills the ingredients to whatever consistency is desired--though dense treats are hard to make because the paddle churns in air.
Chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients can be added toward the end. The chamber is nonstick for easy cleanup. Storing it in the freezer ensures a frozen confection is only 20 to 40 minutes away when the mood strikes. The machine measures 10 inches in diameter and 15 inches high and weighs 9-1/2 pounds. It carries a 90-day warranty. A detailed instruction booklet including many recipes is included. --Fred Brack

I purchased this in kind of a throwaway moment..."hey, a cheap ice cream maker, what the heck." I wish I had more of those moments! This is a great gadget. I used it for the first time last week and made exquisite Heath Bar Crunch in about 30 minutes. It tastes much better than store-bought ice cream.
The maker itself looks very nice. After freezing the bowl, you simply pour in your ice cream base (generally milk, cream, eggs and vanilla) and turn it on. It is loud, but it IS an ice cream maker...besides, for 15 minutes, can we not just deal? About 5 minutes before finishing, you add your goodies--chocolate chips, candy pieces, etc. I recommend freezing your creation another 1-2 hours afterward because the consistency can be somewhat like ice milk right away. The ice cream is even better 2-3 days letter if frozen covered.
Ice cream recipe books are a good compliment, but plenty of recipes are also available online at various places. Overall, I give this my highest... Read more

We used to have one of those ice cream makers that works with salt and ice cubes. After fighting with it one holiday, a relative of ours bought us one of these ice makers instead. We LOVED it, and friends have had so much fun with it that they now have one as well.
It's very easy. Simply put the central unit into the freezer beforehand so it gets cold. Now dump in the ingredients, put that into the base, and turn it on. In 20 minutes you have fresh, delicious, all natural ice cream or yogurt, in whatever style you enjoy!
We found it easy to use, easy to clean up, and a huge hit with not only our own family but with whoever came over to eat with us. Definitely a keeper.

I was hesitant about buying this item because of the rising population of "trendy" unused small appliances in my kitchen. I decided to take the plunge after seeing this sort of product used on the "Iron Chef" TV show. I couldn't believe that fabulous ice cream dishes worthy of a Japanese cooking contest could be created inside of 1 hour. I bought it that day! I put the freezing bowl in the freezer immediately after opening the box and blended up two cans of peach slices and a cup of plain yogurt. When the bowl was frozen (5 hrs) I dumped that stuff in and Voila'!! Ice cream with dinner! My kids think I'm the greatest and I sneaked calcium into their diet with no protests. If you have any doubts, don't. (one more thing: I didn't think the freezer space issue was a big deal, I put a bag of frozen peas inside the bowl to save space)
